Fun For All
SUMMER FUN IS A HAPPENING THING FOR CAMPERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS [Camper Information] at the camp on Western Washington’s beautiful Olympic Peninsula. Campers are received with open arms as they begin their week of play in a setting of tall trees and a serene lake.
Counselors greet their assigned campers as they arrive, help them register, meet the nurse, park their luggage [See “What to Bring.”] and get settled in the sleeping area. Introductions, games and songs begin immediately and are followed by dinner and evening campfire. There is a different dress-for-dinner theme each night such as “Pajama Night,” “Hawaiian Night,” “Mardi Gras,” etc.
The week rolls merrily along with nature trail activities, games, arts & crafts projects, fishing, swimming, and horseback riding. [See sample program] Just when the fun seems unbeatable, there’s Talent Show Night where each person is cheered on for their special talent, no matter what it is: arm wrestling, holding up a picture they painted, singing, blowing bubbles, the possibilities are surprising and endless. The campers and staff go wild with applause for each camper’s performance. Before leaving on Friday morning, each camper is given a special award for an outstanding quality he demonstrated during camp.
Most campers find it hard to leave camp. A local bus driver told us that our campers, when they ride her bus, start singing the camp songs 2 or 3 months before camp begins. It’s an experience they look forward to all year.
