COUNSELORS, THE LIFE OF THE PARTY

If you have ever done anything that takes courage, fortitude and just plain guts: walking on fire, climbing a mountain, then you have a taste of what its like to be a NW Kiwanis Camp counselor.

Glamour? Glory? Uhh, you might want to look elsewhere. But counselors are the heroes of our camp. Why? Because they are positive, enthusiastic and supportive for the campers, 24/7, start to finish. The focus is to make someone’s (your assigned campers) day. They do this against the odds that the camper has handicaps, moods, challenges and other hurdles that make mountain climbing seem easy.

Payoffs? Counselors are often observed by staff, families, friends and - 
perhaps most of all - themselves, as having received great benefit from this experience:

• The bond of deep friendships with other counselors/staff
• The lasting impressions of their relationships with campers
• Maturity stemming from caring for those in great need
• Compassion for children and adults with disabillities
• The satisfaction of completing a challenging task
